The Zimbabwe Council of Churches (ZCC) recently held a bereavement service for the late Reverend Fr Samuel Vusumuzi Ndabezinhle Sifelani at St Luke’s Anglican, Greendale.
Rev Sifelani was the Zimbabwe Council of Churches liaison officer, and died on the 29th of September in a car accident, leaving behind a wife and four children.
In his opening statement, Rev Dr K. Mtata fervently told the Sifelani family and all mourners that they are not alone in the journey of life, even after the passing away of the father of the home.
“I want you to know that you are not alone.” “Do not be afraid, God is with you.” He added.
Consoling Mrs Sifelani, Rev Dr Mtata said in spite of mourning death of our loved ones that leave us daily, our experiences are different.
“People will come and comfort you, and tell you that they understand, but your experience is different.”
“Some pastors, family members, relatives, friends, and church members will come for a certain period, comforting you. They will stop coming, you need to be strong.” he said.
Quoting Proverbs 18:24, Rev Dr Mtata reminded gatherers and the entire Christian community that God is a friend that sticks closer than a brother does, and thus, all should find comfort in Him.
He ended on a higher note filled with hope for all Christians, including the Sifelani family, reminding them of Jesus’ invitation to His followers to “not be troubled, but believe in God and in Him. For he is preparing a place for all his children that will end human sufferings,” including death.
