Security forces in Bulawayo are turning motorists away at roadblocks barring them from entering into the CBD, allowing only medical and security officials passage , in clear contradiction of latest lockdown rules.
It is unclear why the police and army have taken such a stance.
Cars are congested at the city’s major roads as motorists are struggling to manuever the morning traffic in a bid to go back to their respective surbubs.
Scores of people could be seen walking back to their homes.
Motorists who spoke to this publication expressed disappointment and said this was confusing as no new lockdown rules have been announced that bar people from conducting business in the CBD.
“This is very crazy and confusing at the same time. They are not even giving reasons why we are not allowed to enter the CBD . Some of us have legitimate businesses to run in town and now this.” Said Mthulisi Ncube who runs an accessories shop in town.
Within the CBD, witnesses said soldiers have been chasing people from bank queues .
This has sparked speculation that soldiers are turning people away so that they can get their salaries from banks without disturbance.
