MultiChoice Zimbabwe Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Lovemore Mangwende Makono, has died, the company announced in a statement.
The leading video entertainment company boss in Zimbabwe died on Sunday after succumbing to an undisclosed illness.
MultiChoice Zimbabwe said it is with deep regret and great sadness that they advise on the passing on of their CEO.
“Lovemore was an inspirational leader and a father figure to many. He guided and fought tirelessly for the betterment of his countrymen and the management and staff of his company.
“Our sincere and heartfelt condolences go to his wife, family, the chairman and directors of Skynet (Pvt) Ltd Trading as MultiChoice Zimbabwe.”
According to the statement, Mangwende joined MultiChoice Zimbabwe in 2005 and had been the CEO since 2008.
The company said their boss’s larger-than-life persona will be forever missed.
Meanwhile the Ministry of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting has mourned the passing of CEO Mangwende.
“The Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting , Hon Monica Mutsvangwa, the Deputy Minister Hon Mutodi, the Permanent Secretary Mr Mangwana and the entire Ministry wish to condole with the Mangwende Family on the sad loss of Mr Lovemore Mangwende the Multichoice CEO,” tweeted the Ministry on their page.
Minister Mutsvangwa also weighed in saying CEO Mangwende’s contribution to the country’s media industry was enormous.
“The late Mr Lovemore Mangwende CEO of Multichoice was a pioneer in multichannel digital broadcasting. He was a prime mover in opening up of broadcasting and the entry of private broadcasting players. It is a loss to the media industry” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
