Bulawayo– Miss Nust 2018 Michelle Chikwengo’s reign is drawing to an end as the prestigious pageant organisers embark on the search for a new queen this Saturday at the NUST ceremonial hall.
Brian Zhawi, the Nust Entertainment Marketing Director said all was set for the event, which will also contribute to Cyclone Idai relief.
“We are matching the perceptions of how models should be philanthropists by making this year’s event contribute to Cyclone Idai Relief,” he said.
He added that they also have great additions to the event this year, in the form of NUST Campus awards on the night.
“We have Great additions like the inaugural NUST Campus awards and battle of NUST Campus Djs (BONC DJs),” Zhawi said.
The awards up for grabs will include the NUST Slay Papa of the year, the NUST slay queen and the best couple of the year.
Former Miss NUST, Terai Moyo said she was elated that the wait for this year’s pageantry was final over and she was looking forward to the event.
“You know l have been in the model’s shoes before, and its one good experience l tell you,” she said smilingly.
“I hope the best lady wins. I love modelling and l also love watching other women model, it will be a good experience,” she said.
Mollet Ndebele, one of the 2019 contestants, who is a part II Journalism and Media Studies student said she has set her sights on the crown and hopes she will emerge victorious on Saturday.
“It feels amazing taking part in the pageant. You know this will avail an opportunity for me to meet new people, learning new things that I wouldn’t have a learnt if I hadn’t decided to take part in this contest,” she said.
While the hype for the Miss NUST is gaining momentum, artists that are set to perform on the day seem not to be a miss with the students.
“I mean who calls artists like Trevor Dongo to come and perform at a university in 2019? I mean you will expect artists like Winky D, Enzo or even Jah Signal, they have songs we relate to nowadays. Trevor is no longer popular,” one student commented on conditions of anonymity.
The performing artists include Trevor Dongo and Baooka with local DJs which include DJ Nospa, Dj Teflon, Dj Mouris and Dj Calvin.
