Local Institutions have heeded the call by Government to shut down in a bid to curb the Corona virus spread.
Yesterday, Government enacted a ban on public gatherings of more than one hundred people and ordered the shutdown of schools and tertiary institutions as a measure to fight the pandemic.
This publication is in possession of a memo from the National University of Science and Technology in Bulawayo advising its students and staff members that the university will be shut down starting next Monday until the 14th of April.
“The National University of Science and Technology is closely monitoring the developments around the corona virus (COVID-19).The health and well-being of all our students and staff is of paramount importance .” said Nust Vice Chancellor Professor M E Dlodlo.
“The University , therefore, announces that the mid semester break has been brought forward to start on Monday 23 March 2020 and will end tentatively on 14 April 2020 .”
The Tenacity Post has it on good authority that other Tertiary institutions have taken the same step.
Schools in Matabeleland and Bulawayo are also effecting an early closure and have advised parents with children in boarding school to make transport arrangements for their children.
This is despite some of the schools saying they are yet to receive official communication from Government but are acting on information in the media.
Induba Primary School in Pelandaba cancelled its Annual General Meeting slated for this Saturday, in light of COVID-19.
